Ryde Pier New Walkway

Portsmouth is the recipient of £80m as a result of a successful bid for funding from the Department of Transport’s ‘Transforming Cities’ Fund. Part of the fund (£10m) has been allocated to transport improvements in Ryde.

Bids for funding were subsequently invited for transport related projects, and Wightlink suggested the idea of a Pier walkway, running the length of Ryde Pier and connecting St Johns with Pier Head Station, under cover. Designed by RPA to provide both enclosure and respite along its length, it was submitted by Wightlink in January 2019.
